Some seasons shift quietly, while others open in a rush of possibility. As a new year begins in High Point, the arts community is stepping into the latter. The recent renovation of Centennial Station reflects that energy, offering a space where history and the future meet.
Within these walls is the High Point Arts Council, now entering a new chapter under the leadership of Executive Director Catena Bergevin. With more than twenty-five years of nonprofit experience, Catena brings both steadiness and a clear sense of purpose as the organization looks ahead. When asked what feels most new and why it matters for the community, she shared:
“HPAC not only has a new look, with the recent renovation of Centennial Station, but a renewed commitment to our creative community, both in High Point and the Triad. As a local arts agency, it is our responsibility to support, nurture, and invest in art that is happening all around us. Our goal is to become more accessible, sustainable, and impactful, and that means building partnerships. Our new Creative Space Access Grant Program provides venue space for creatives by removing financial barriers, fostering innovation, and building community engagement.”
In this moment of renewal, both the High Point Arts Council and The ACGG are leaning into collaboration, recognizing that stronger connections across communities expand opportunity, visibility, and impact for artists throughout the region.
“I see an incredible opportunity to be a national model of how two local arts councils, working collaboratively together and with city offices, will elevate our creative economy.”
With change comes hope, and Catena speaks to how the arts are essential hope bringers: “Artists have always been our guiding light; the arts provide a path forward even in troubling times. At HPAC, we say FOR THE LOVE OF ART, do what you can, support a local artist, buy a ticket, attend a concert, enroll your kids, subscribe to newsletters, learn a craft, make a donation, write to your legislators…. these investments do make a difference. Your voice matters….. I feel a real determination in the air, and that will change the future.”
