It’s been seven months since the launch of the Artist Salon Series debuted at Well-Spring, A Life Plan Community. Featuring Artist Support Grantees from The Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, this program provides a platform for artists to share their work and meet the community where they are.
Each artist peels back the curtain of their distinctive creative processes, inspirations, challenges, and evolution of their craft.
Highlighted artists from this year include:
- Karl Ronnevik and Peter Deligdisch: This musician and visual artist duo collaborates on “Bach to the Drawing Board,” a project that combines live performances of Bach’s Suites I-III with improvisational live drawing.
- Katie Podracky: An impressionist painter known for her vibrant use of color and distinct brushstrokes; Katie captures North Carolina’s state parks in her landscape series.
- Carrie Plew: A professional dancer and dedicated dance instructor, Carrie brings passion and expertise to her teaching and performances.
- Steven Cozart: A visual artist who explores the complexities of the Black male experience within the African American community, exploring stereotypes, myths, and truths through his work.
- Kevin Vanek: A sculptor who employs traditional methods and materials to spark conversations around contemporary social issues.
- John and Rachel York: This father-daughter duo creatively intertwines poetry, song, and illustration, drawing on the rich oral traditions of their Appalachian heritage to tell stories.
- Derek Palacio: A novelist and professor at UNC Greensboro, Derek’s literary work and academic insights lend deeper understanding of contemporary narratives.
Participants who have attended the sessions have noted the “sincerity and the talent” of the artists who have presented.
