ArtsGreensboro Announces Regional Artist Grant Recipients

Twelve artists from Guilford and Alamance Counties receive funds for furthering

their development as professional artists

 Greensboro, N.C., January 28, 2015 ArtsGreensboro announced today the recipients of its 2014– 2015 Regional Artist Grants.

The Regional Artist Grant program is designed to support exceptionally talented visual, performing, literary, and interdisciplinary artists at all stages of their careers to pursue projects that will further their professional artistic development. ArtsGreensboro coordinates the Regional Artists Grant program on behalf of a consortium of five counties: Alamance, Caswell, Guilford, Randolph, and Rockingham. Funding is provided by the North Carolina Arts Council and matched locally by participating Arts Councils.

This year 37 applications were received—a record for this program—with more than $90,000 in requested funding.

As a result of a lengthy review and selection process, twelve artists received a total of $18,000 in funding.

The grant recipients and their projects include:

  • Mary Beth Boone – Birding: Exploring Birds through Paint (Visual)
  • Mike Conners – Summer Harp Study in Ireland (Music)
  • Julia Taylor Ebel – Promotion of new children’s book, Hansi and the Iceman (Literature)
  • Ted Efremoff – The Healing Blues Documentary (Film/Music)
  • Shiela Klinfelter – Gate City Divas CD (Music)
  • Jennifer Guy Metcalf – Remix: An Electronic Dance Mix Ballet (Dance)
  • Thomas Sara – Printmaking: New Works (Visual)
  • Christoper Sims – The Pretend Villages of Iraq, Afghanistan and the Ukraine (Visual)
  • Ann Tilley – Textile Art: Knitting Machine (Visual)
  • Patt Wasserboehr – Memorial Sculpture Series (Visual)
  • Victavious Wilson – The Developing Artist (Music)
  • Shinichiro Yoshikai – Cello-Making Project (Music/Visual)
