Folk music has a long, rich history across the world. Folk music has many meanings across different cultures, but ultimately musicians agree that folk music is of the people. Smaller communities form and use music within these cultures to express their customs and traditions. Contemporary folk music emerged from traditional music, incorporating more modern themes into the familiar music style.
The North Carolina Folk Festival emerged in 2018 after Greensboro’s successful three-year National Folk Festival residence. Similar to the values of the National Folk Festival, North Carolina Folk Festival is dedicated to inclusivity by presenting different artists from varying backgrounds to perform on the same stage. NC Folk Fest highlights the diverse people that make up our community and world in one weekend, promoting culture and acceptance.
