Working in partnership with the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and the Guilford Merchants Association, The Arts in Business Award honors small businesses (both profit and non-profit) in the Greensboro area for leadership, commitment and outstanding initiatives with the arts and arts organizations.
Nomination Details
Award Criteria for Arts in Business Nominees
Nominees must be a Greensboro small business with 100 or fewer employees within the greater Greensboro area. Recipients must have a significant impact on the arts through a variety of activities or through a single project of significant magnitude. (Foundations, individual philanthropists, government agencies and arts organizations are not eligible to compete. Self-nominations are accepted.)
Examples of activities that support a nomination:
- Business that promotes the arts in one or more ways (gallery that promotes art, performance venue, or has an arts education component)
- Business that hosts community events that focus on the arts
- Business that volunteers on behalf of the arts (employee participation, sponsorship for financial support of the arts)
- Business that incorporates the arts into their company culture
- Business that makes an impact on individual employees, customer, clients and/or community through their arts support or engagement
Required Questions
- Describe how the Nominee is incorporating the art in the workplace
- Describe how the Nominee is furthering the educational development of youth
- Describe how the Nominee is enhancing the economic vitality of the community
- Describe how the Nominee is enriching the quality of live in our community
Attach 3-4 letters of support of the nominee. Each letter of support should not exceed one page.
In partnership with Guilford County Schools (GCS), ArtsGreensboro is pleased to offer the Arts Education Teacher of the Year Award sponsored by Wells Fargo. The award, established in 2006, recognizes an outstanding arts educator in the Guilford County School System.
Nomination Details
Award Criteria for Arts Education Teacher of the Year Nominees
The nominee must be employed by Guilford County Schools in a primary role as an arts educator teaching visual or performing arts including, but not limited to, drama, music, and dance, they must be a recognized as a leader in arts education by their colleagues, current and past students, and the nominee challenges and inspires their students to excel.
Required Questions
- Describe your nominee’s impact on the students that they teach. Include your own ideas of what makes them an outstanding arts education teacher.
- Why do you believe that this nominee should be named “Arts Education Teacher of the Year”?
Attach 3-4 letters of recommendation from students, parents, and peers are encouraged Each letter of support should not exceed one page.
The Betty Cone Medal of Arts Award, established in 1999 and sponsored by AT&T North Carolina, honors local artists who have achieved clear excellence in their discipline and/or have made extraordinary contributions to their field or the community through their artistry or expertise.

Award Criteria for Betty Cone Medal of the Arts Nominee
The nominee must reside, work, or volunteer in the greater Greensboro area and be a visual, literary, or performing artist who has achieved clear excellence in their art form.
Required Questions
- In what ways does the nominee meet the criteria of excellence in his/her art form?
- In what ways does the nominee meet the criteria of contributing to the arts in the greater Greensboro area?
Attach 3-4 letters of support of the nominee. Each letter of support should not exceed one page.
In partnership with the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, ArtsGreensboro established the O. Henry Lifetime Award to honor local individuals who have exhibited lifelong achievement and commitment to the arts and culture in the Greensboro community, in addition to local artists who have made an extraordinary contribution to their field.

Award Criteria for O. Henry Lifetime Award Nominees
The nominees must reside, work, or volunteer in the greater Greensboro area and have made extraordinary contributions to the cultural development of the community throughout their lifetime.
Required Questions
- In what ways does the nominee meet the criteria of extraordinary contributions to the cultural development of the community?
- List details of participation in cultural and artistic endeavors. Include organizational affiliations, directorships, trusteeships or other designation. Include office(s) held with date(s).
- List other significant achievements or involvement.
Attach 3-4 letters of support of the nominee. Each letter of support should not exceed one page.
