The American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA) Relief Fund provides support and temporary financial assistance to members who are in need. AGMA contracts with The Actors Fund to administer this program nationally as well as to provide comprehensive social services.

The Music Maker Relief Foundation offers a Musician Sustenance program that includes an emergency needs funding program for artists facing an unexpected situation such as theft, illness, or natural disaster. The program is only available for musicians over the age of 55 and who have a yearly income of less than $18,000.

The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation, Inc. has an Emergency Grant program that is intended to provide qualified artists with one-time interim financial assistance in the event of an unforeseen, catastrophic event for which they lack the resources to manage. CERF+ provides emergency relief assistance in the form of small grants, no-interest loans, access to resources, waivers and discounts on booth fees, and donations of craft supplies and equipment for professional craft artists. The Writers Emergency Assistance Fund (formerly the Llewellyn Miller Fund) is administered through the ASJA Charitable Trust, which has 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Its mission is to help established freelance writers across the country who, because of “advanced age, illness, disability, a natural disaster, or an extraordinary professional crisis are unable to work.” A writer does not need to be a member of ASJA to qualify for a grant but must have “past professional freelance nonfiction writing over a sustained period of years.”

Modest Needs is a non-profit organization that seeks to help low-income workers from slipping into poverty by soliciting the general public to make small, emergency grants to those people.

Current Local options to explore:

  • Governor Cooper has requested Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster declaration for business owners facing economic losses due to Coronavirus. The declaration provides Economic Injury Disaster low interest loans to impacted businesses to help fulfill financial obligations and operating expenses statewide.

For local nonprofits that work with community members who will be most in need due to the precautionary steps to slow the path of the virus, the Greensboro Community Development Fund from Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro is developing COVID-19 Emergency Fund. Additionally, with low interest rates due to COVID-19 two additional resources small business may want to look into are loans through Community Development Financial Institutions which are nonprofit organizations. Two North Carolina CDFI’s to look into are:

NC IDEA is probably the most well-known North Carolina grant funder for small businesses in NC. https://ncidea.org/grants-programs/

The United Way of Greater Greensboro and the City of Greensboro are supporting residents impacted by the Coronavirus, by establishing the Greensboro Virus Relief Fund.   

The Greensboro Virus Relief Fund is accepting donations to support local children and families impacted by the virus. United Way and the City will coordinate with local nonprofits to determine ongoing needs and fund distribution.

Arts Greensboro’s Artist Emergency Relief Fund: For working artists in Greensboro in need of support due to cancellations from the outbreak of COVID-19. This fund is a money-in, money-out fund. ArtsGreensboro will disperse funds weekly, based on the amount donated.  This fund is directed to working artists, not organizations or nonprofits.
