Fair Pay for Artists

Fair Pay for Artists

Additional Resources

Working Artists and the Greater Economy is a New York-based activist organization founded in 2008. Our mission is to establish sustainable economic relationships between artists and the institutions that contract our labor, and to introduce mechanisms for self-regulation into the art field that collectively bring about a more equitable distribution of its economy.

Artists Thrive is a growing initiative offering activities, practices, language, visions and values of what it means to succeed and thrive as an artist – and what it means to have a thriving arts sector and, eventually, thriving communities. It is a set of interconnected and holistic resources that can guide us in improving our performance and, ultimately, the conditions in which artists can thrive.

We hope the calculator will act as a catalyst for the field. If we understand what a teaching artist ought to be paid, we can begin, as a field, to work towards a livable wage, stabilizing and strengthening the work teaching artists do in arts education, creative youth development, and arts in community, across the United States.

We at TAG are well aware that these rates may be currently inaccessible to arts nonprofits, however we believe that all teaching artists should have a living wage.
